Amulet : Any object that's thought to have the power to ward off ghosts and evil spirits or to bring good
luck
Anomaly : Something that is different, abnormal, peculiar or not easily classified within a scientific aspect
Apparition : The life like appearance of a deceased person or animal. The appearance of apparitions is
very unusual. A "crisis" apparition is a term used when someone sees a spirit of something close to them
right before, during or after their death
Apparition Collective : An unusual type of spirit in which more than one person sees the same
phenomenon
Apparition Crisis : A specific type of out-of-body experience in which the agent projects his or her astral
body at a time of crisis or death, usually to a loved one
Apport/Asport : An apport is a Solid object that seemingly appears from no where in the presence of a
medium. Some apports are assembled from invisible material matter; others are teleported from an
another often-distant location. An asport is any object the spirits or the medium makes disappear or
teleports to another location
Automatic Writing : Communication from a spirit in written form. The medium holds a pen or pencil
against paper and allows the spirit to take possession or control of his or her hand to write out a message
Automatism : Any unconscious and spontaneous muscular movement caused by the spirits. Automatic
writing is one from of automatism
Banshees : Banshees are special Irish ghosts that wail around the house when someone in it is about to
die. The are normally female. Banshees are pale and always look haggard and sad when they come with
their morbid news of death
Channeling : Uses communication with the paranormal through a state of trance. Some channelers allow
the spirit to use their vocal cords to communicate. Others chose to let the spirit through by allowing
them to use their hearing, vision and intuition
Clairvoyance : The ability to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by th five senses. (Some times
referred to as a six sense)
Cold Spot : An area f psychic energy with a considerable about of temperature change. Can be free
floating, or stationary. All other possibilities must be ruled out before this is to be considered
Doppelgangers : These are ghosts that are the spitting image of a person who is alive and often present
when they appear. Sometimes these mysterious doubles look so muck like their living, that it's very hard
to tell them apart
Ectoplasm : A product of psychic energy which usually forms as a fog like mist, solid white mass, or
vortexes
Electro-Magnetic Field Meter : This is a :must" have for ghost hunters. This tool detects the changes in the
electro-magnetic field. This field is around everything. From T.V.'s to power boxes. So care must be used
in your "possible" ghost. The normal reading for paranormal activity is between 2.0 and 8.0. Above this is
usually man-made in origin
Electronic Voice Phenomenon : This is the practice of getting voices recorded on tapes, usually audio.
Usually nothing is heard at the time of the recording. Only during playback do you hear the hushed and
gravely voices
Elemental : This is an entity that is not unlike a demonic spirit - it is MALEVOLENT by nature - causing
horrific fear when it appears. It seeks to frighten and bestow evil intentions among the intended victims.
It may be seen as a beast like,hairy,foul smelling, or simply a dark mass/shadow. This spirit is commonly
summoned using tarot cards or Ouija boards - unintentionally by persons seeking dead entities.. it comes
out of terrifying circumstances surrounding the dwelling, and is "awakened" by the occult activities of the
aforementioned contact attempts of humans
Ghost : A form or apparition, usually the visual appearance of a deceased humans spirit soul
Ghost Hunt : An informational attempt to site or simply record a host in a location that has no history of
hauntings
Ghost Hunter : A person or group who tries to record spirits or ghosts. This may be done by means of
photography, video tape, or other means. Sometimes the source of a haunting can be found
Ghostly Dogs : These are usually black and are hell-hounds, who are omens of death and disaster.
Sightings go back to the legend of Cerberus, the evil, three headed dog which guarded the gates of the
underworld. On the other hand, the Norfolk Shuck, is nice, friendly like and loyal! He was supposed to
have been the pet of two brothers who were buried in different cemeteries a few miles apart and
because he loves them both, he will spend eternity roaming from one grave to the other at night
Ghouls : Ghouls are more or less in the same class of unpleasant supernatural beings as vampires and
were beasts. The vampire only drinks blood. Werewolves eat their "victims"flesh as well. Ghouls hang
around graveyards and eat their decaying remains
Haunt : A ghost that returns to the same place is said to haunt it. A ghost usually haunts places, not
people
Haunting : A materilization/apperance of an often unexplained happening, which is repeated often and
over a long period of time. Hauntings are usually connected to a certain place or residence
Ignis Fatuus : Literally meaning "foolish fire" and any of a variety of ghost or spectral lights. According to
some folkloric traditions, the lights are souls of the dead; in other legends, they are imp-like spirits
Medium : A person who can communicate with a spirit, usually on behalf of a living person
Orbs : This is the most common type of spirit energy to be captured on film. These will appear as solid or
transparent "balls". They appear in many shapes and some colors, with white being the most common
Poltergeist : A non-human spirit energy. Although its name is based on Greek roots meaning "noisy
ghost", the poltergeist is usually more malicious and destructive than ghosts of dead human beings.
Traditional poltergeist activities are thumpings, and bangings, levitating and moving objects,
stone-throwing, and starting fires
Sliders : These are people who walk past lamp posts and they go off! When they walk away from them
they go back on! Some people say this has something to do with mind power
Spirit Demonic : An entity or spirit spawning from the devil that is, or was not of this earth. They have
the capibility of human posession, and the strength greater than any flesh and blood creature. *Never
challenge this type of entity* Usually demonic spirits are distinguished by their dark, or black masses of
psychic energy. These spirits can be seen with film, video, and sometimes with the naked eye
Spirit Human : A spirit, or soul, that once was a flesh and blooded person who is earthbound for some
reason. Most of them are lost and just need some guidance to the other side. Others have unfinished
business, or important messages to give to the living. Then there are some what don't realize that they
have died
Streaming Lights : Steams of light that appear on developed film, but were not seen by the naked eye at
the time of the exposure. They resemble small bright globules with pale white transparent trails streaking
across the picture
Wraith : person double or apparition supposedly seen shortly before or after your death
